Today I had to go to Madras for work to visit somebody in the jail. Whee! This semi-monthly trip is a serious downside to my job. There are many others. Downsides, I mean.
The upside is that I recently discovered audiobooks. I hadn't really tried them before, figuring someone's droning voice going on and on would put me right to sleep. And then on a whim I checked out a Patrick O'Brian audiobook -- and it's great. It's very exciting, with pirate battles and hours of chasing French frigates on the high seas.
We watched a funny movie last night -- Driving Lessons. It's got the actor who plays Ron in the Harry Potter movies, as well as the actress who plays Ron's mom. And Laura Linney with a British accent!
Well, that's about it. It's been a slow week for everything.

Don't you worry that your new found taste for audiobooks is nothing more than an admission that you're no longer literate? I'd check into that.
So, speaking of listening to droning voices, did I ever tell you guys about the time I recorded myself reading aloud my bar review notes. I thought I would get some extra study time by listening to my notes on the drive from Charlottesville to Roanoke. In an effort to maximize my time, I sped-read my notes as quickly as I could. Plus, I played it back at 2x speed. So, I listened to my nasally voice yelling at a high rate of speed about commercial paper and other such nuggets for the two-hour drive to Roanoke. It was a good time. I think I still have those tapes if you run out of audio books.
Well hello, Bucket. I wish I could remember other funny names from that book. Wasn't there someone named Crookshanks? Or is that from Harry Potter?
I'm still semi-literate. I only listen to the audiobook when I'm in the car. Which is a lot.
I see that you have started a blog after all. How exciting!
Well, not quite yet. (I often frequently write quiet when I mean quite, which I did not happen to do this time, which is good.) Since your blog does not allow anonymous posting, I first created a screen name that will allow me to post rude, inane comments to your blog, all the while concealing my secret identity. I then decided to preserve the blog space, but haven't decided what, if anything, to do with it. Maybe I'll start introducing chapters of my prospective ghost written autobiography, Missing Me, a touching, aprochyphal tale of a boy lost in the game of men.
At any rate, you're close. Hermione's cat is called Crookshanks, but there is a character Krook who spontaneously combusts in Bleak House. As you may know from the forward, Dickens actually believed spontaneous combustion is possible.
PB asks: isn't spontaneous combustion possible? Don't cows blow up?
